OK Hoss, here's the basics.
The Capacitor Discharge Ignition(CDI) has three components. A capacitor, a diode, and a silicon controlled rectifier{(SCR)or thyristor}. The most likely cause of failure is the diode, although the SCR(which is another kind of diode) might also fail. Either way the CDI is a non-repairable item and probably costs a small fortune. But I'm pretty sure you're already aware of that. Sorry.
